Butterfly Garden Planters
The New York Botanical Garden in association with Barreveld International, a leader in distinctive designs for the home, has developed a superb collection of ceramic vases, cachepots, and decorative accessories inspired by some of the finest examples of botanical art in the Rare Book Collections of the Mertz Library here at the Garden. Combining historical botanical imagery with a contemporary approach to design, these exciting pieces were created with today’s gardener and plant enthusiast in mind.
The charming depictions of flowers and butterflies on these colorful ceramic planters are by the remarkable 18th-century English naturalist and artist Mark Catesby, who collected specimens and made paintings of the diverse flora and fauna he encountered on two extended trips to America between 1712 and 1726. Catesby presented his work in
The Natural History of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands (1731-1743).
The planters come in two sizes: Large 3¾” H x 12” L x 3½” W; Small 3½” H x 8¾” L x 3½” W.
