Gold Fern Earrings
These earrings feature ferns from hand-colored engravings in Icones Filicum (1831), published in London by William Jackson Hooker (1785–1865), a renowned English botanist and the first director of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. This work sought to correct the imbalanced emphasis on flowering plants in botanical publications of the time, and helped spark the Victorian fern craze whereby ferns became a staple plant in drawing rooms, gardens, and popular decorative art.
Earrings are gold plated with applied colors on both sides. Each measures approximately 3/4" x 1 1/4 inches.
Pair comes in a customized gift box.
