Green Orchid Plates

The vibrant beauty of orchids is captured in the images on these colorful little glass plates. The portraits of slipper orchids, corsage orchids, and other members of this dazzling family of flowering plants are by John Nugent Fitch, a master illustrator of orchids at the height of orchid mania in late Victorian England.

The glass plates measure 5¾” in diameter. Sold individually.

The botanical illustrations are from The Orchid Album, a 19th-century botanical work in the Rare Books Collections of the Mertz Library here at the Garden.
