Historic Houses of the Hudson River Valley
by Gregory Long
This stunningly illustrated book brings the reader to 33 historic houses that grace the majestic landscape of New York's Hudson River Valley, from Dutch vernacular cottages to Georgian country homes, and from Gothic and Italianate mansions to the beaux-arts dwellings of the early 20th century. Most of these houses are now open to the public, but we especially enjoyed being able to take a peek inside some fourteen private homes that you would otherwise have to trespass to see. This project is unique in the careful attention it pays to those smaller, vernacular houses, which appear like time warps in the mysterious interstices of upstate New York. Gregory Long is the president of The New York Botanical Garden.
