Majolica Butterfly Garden Vase

The little town of Montelupo in central Tuscany has been celebrated since the 15th century for its beautiful majolica, created by skilled craftsmen using the superb local clay. Combining a deep respect for this tradition with a desire to create exciting original designs for today’s homes and gardens, the workshop of ND Dolfi under the guidance of Giovanni Dolfi and then his son, Silvano Dolfi, has brought the Italian ceramic art to a new flowering.

This glorious vase is made by hand, using a centuries-old process of shaping, glazing, and double firing the clay of Montelupo to produce the lustrous sheen of the finest majolica. The colors include every shade of the painter’s palette, and the freehand painting is the master touch that sets each piece apart from the rest.

The raised decoration of exquisitely painted butterflies gives this majolica vase an exceptional appeal. The vase measures 11½” H x 12” D at base.
