NYBG Kiku 2009 Easel Calendar

The chrysanthemum ( kiku in Japanese) is treasured throughout Japan, where it has been cultivated and trained into exquisitely shaped displays for more than 1,500 years. This elegant easel calendar displays images from Kikka-Meiji-sen, or Catalog of Select Chrysanthemums, a very rare nursery catalog published in Tokyo in 1891 by Kanezumi Imai. The full-page color woodcuts, extraordinary for both their printing quality and colors, were engraved by the artist Tomita Rokusaemon.

A perfect way to remember the extraordinary display of Japanese chrysanthemums at the Garden, the calendar brings a touch of the floral artistry of the East to your desk or table.

Rare Book Collections of the Mertz Library here at the Garden.

The calendar measures 6¾” H x 6¼” W.
