NYBG Magnolia Luncheon Placemats
Magnolia flowers are captured in their incomparable beauty on these luncheon placemats. The images of
Magnolia campbellii are by the renowned 19th-century Scottish botanical artist Walter Hood Fitch, who created the superb plates for plant explorer Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker’s
Illustrations of Himalayan Plants (1855). The images of
Magnolia lennei in bud are from
Flore des serres et des jardins de l’Europe, a lavish 19th-century Belgian periodical that specialized in colorful, rare, and exotic plants.
Sturdily made to last, the cork-backed placemats protect your furniture and can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. The set comes elegantly packaged in a custom New York Botanical Garden box with a silver foil stamping. An insert provides information on the original work of botanical art from the Rare Book Collections of the Mertz Library here at the Garden.
Set of 6 placemats, each a different design. 11½" x 8½"
