NYBG Orchids Note Cards

The glorious images of orchids on these note cards are selections from John Nugent Fitch's Orchid Album, a 19th-century botanical work in the Rare Book Collections of the Mertz Library here at the Garden.

John Nugent (1840-1927), botanical illustrator and lithographer, is best known for his creation of the 528 plates in The Orchid Album. With orchids wildly popular in the late Victorian era, nurseryman Benjamin Samuel Williams published this work as a subscription series to meet the demand for orchid illustrations, botanical descriptions, and notes on orchid cultivation.
