NYBG Peony Placemats
The images of peonies on these elegant placemats are from
Hortus Eystettensis, a majestic 17th-century botanical work commissioned by the Prince Bishop of Eichstätt to illustrate over one thousand species of plants that were grown in his private garden near Nuremberg. Published in a limited edition in 1613, it contains more than 350 life-size copperplate engravings depicting four seasons of flowering plants in exquisite detail.
Sturdily made to last, the cork-backed placemats can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. The set comes elegantly packaged in a custom New York Botanical Garden box with silver foil stamping. An insert provides information on the original work of botanical art from the Rare Book Collections of the Mertz Library here at the Garden.
