The popularity of botanical illustration books is a testament to the appeal of this craft as one way to grasp the beauty and intricacy of the plant world. This recent volume devoted to botanical painting is one of the best of the genre, not just for the clarity of the instructional passages but for the craftsmanship of its examples. The rendition of Lily 'African Queen' by Sally Keir, pictured in Chapter 11, is about as good as it gets.
