Award-winning photographer and author Tim Palmer has captured 200 glorious images of wild forests across America in all their vanity, complexity, and beauty. He shows New England with its brilliant maples in autumn, Appalachian mountains suffused with green, cottonwoods shading streams in the desert, the rain forests in the Northwest. Palmer's text describes the ecological workings of forests, their importance for the health of our planet, and the challenges facing woodlands and the people who care about him.

Unaltered digitally or by other means, these pictures show forests as Tim Palmer found them—at sunrise or sunset, in the depths of winter storms and in the balmy days of summer, on the beaches of Hawaii as well as the glaciated frontier of Alaska. Palmer shows America's trees and forests as they have rarely been portrayed in one volume of photography and text.
