Parrot Tulip Placemats

The New York Botanical Garden in association with Lunt Silversmiths, a leader in innovative design, has developed a distinctive collection of tableware, decorative accessories, and gifts inspired by some of the finest examples of botanical art from the Rare Book Collections of the Mertz Library here at the Garden.

These striking placemats are inspired by illustrations from Phytanthoza Iconographia (Regensberg: 1737-1745), a rare and important 18th-century botanical work, one of the first to use color printing. The copper plate engravings are a combination of etching and mezzotint that allows for delicate lines and a very fine grain. Among the illustrators was the renowned Georg Ehret, the preeminent botanical artist of the period. Set against a bright yellow background, the graceful images of parrot tulips have an exotic appeal.

Set of 4 hardboard placemats with felt bottoms (11½” x 15½”) comes in a beautiful gift box with The New York Botanical Garden logo.
