Abstract The Isthmus of Panama is host to at least 12 described Zamia taxa, some of which occupy a very wide swath of western Panama. Many natural populations have been extensively and intensively studied for both vegetative and reproductive variability, taking into account such parameters as position, size, and relationship of stems, leaves, and cones; coning period; and reproductive mechanism. We obtained and analyzed data for seven population groups, and the results are given herein, with the aim of clarifying population dynamics, species plasticity, and the development of a coherent postulate of population structure of the species implied.
