Species that occur in the Pacific Northwest as well as in the Intermountain region are here illustrated by drawings prepared by Jeanne R. Janish and published in Vascular Plants of the Pacific Northwest (Univ. Washington Publ. Biol. 17. 1955-1969). These drawings are reproduced with permission from the University of Washington Press. All other species (except Cactaceae) are illustrated with new drawings by Bobbi Angell and Laura Vogel. Illustrations of Cactaceae were prepared by Marsha M. Bennett, Karen Ann Gengle, Molly Coxson Gill, Elaine Hultgren, JoAnn Loza, Lynn Reves, Daniela G. Siroky, Sandra Turico, and Gigi Wilson. The illustrations by Bobbi Angell of Fallopia convolvulus, Liquidambar styraciflua, Reynoutria japonica, and Rheum rhabarbarum were first published in The New York Times and are reproduced with permission from the artist.
