The Atlantic Coastal Forest of Brazil is one of the world's biodiversity "hotspots," highly threatened areas rich in species found nowhere else. This narrow strip of forest spans over 23 degrees of latitude and 4000 km-the equivalent of Nova Scotia to Cuba-and actually comprises many different forest types, each with its own flora and conservation problems. The volume includes writings by 33 scientists on the vegetation and flora of the little-known forest types within the Coastal Forest, plus conclusions in the context of the entire hotspot.
