The white lily on these beautiful yet practical placemats is from A selection of hexandrian plants, belonging to the natural orders Amaryllidae and Liliacae by Priscilla Susan Falkner Bury (1793-1869). The sheer bulk of this volume, some 23 inches in height, places it among the largest botanical works ever produced. Each one of the fifty-one plates is a striking, life-sized, hand-colored depiction.
Sturdily made to last, the cork-backed placemats can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. The set comes elegantly packaged in a custom New York Botanical Garden box with silver foil stamping. An insert provides information on the original work of botanical art from the Rare Book Collections of the Mertz Library here at the Garden.
