CORPSE FLOWER IN BLOOM
Come closer...NYBG's Corpse Flower (Amorphophallus titanum) is a horticultural jewel years in the making. Whenever this rare plant blooms, it causes a sensation. Perhaps it’s because it is known for having one of the largest inflorescences in the world, but more likely it’s because of the putrid odor it releases during its brief 24- to 36-hour peak, reminiscent of the smell of rotting flesh, which is why the plant is more popularly known as the corpse flower.
As of October 17, a new corpse flower is on display in the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory and is set to bloom this month. Come, lean in...and then take home a lasting momento of this rare putrid beauty. Comprised of a historical botanical print from our Rare Book Collection as well as herbarium samples of real corpse flowers, this limited edition edit is sure to sell out as fast as the bloom lasts!
