Inspired by the calendar in his studio, showcasing works by the great masters, Martin set out in 2023 to recreate Starry Night in crystal. Using a diamond-tipped drill, he begins by etching the full composition into the vase. After an initial polish removes the opaque finish, he engraves again—layering depth and dimension into the piece. This meticulous process mirrors the swirling, emotive brushstrokes of the original painting.
The result? A breathtaking crystal interpretation of Starry Night that takes 21 hours to engrave over three days. When combined with mouth-blowing and hand-cutting, the piece requires four skilled craftsmen and a total of 25 hours to complete. Each finished vase bears the Waterford mark of authenticity—along with Martin Barron’s signature, a symbol of true artistry.
